Over the course of a season, foot traffic, mowing, and our heavy New England soils compact the ground under your lawn, making it harder for air, water, and nutrients to reach the roots. Core aeration pulls small plugs of soil from the lawn, opening it back up so your turf can breathe and root deeply.

We generally recommend aerating in the fall, after the stress of summer. Pairing aeration with fertilization enhances root growth and improves spring green-up — and it’s the single best window to overseed, since the loosened soil gives new grass seed ideal conditions to establish.
